The Green Party of Canada stands in solidarity with the people of Iran, especially those peacefully demanding basic human rights, dignity, and a future free from fear and oppression.
We condemn in the strongest terms the Iranian authorities’ brutal repression: the killing of protesters, arbitrary arrests and detentions, enforced disappearances, and widespread intimidation aimed at silencing families, journalists, and human rights defenders. These abuses are unacceptable, and Canada must continue to call them out clearly and consistently.
The Green Party hopes to see more concrete signs of de-escalation in and around Iran. Diplomacy, however difficult, remains essential to preventing further suffering and wider conflict. Any credible steps toward dialogue should be supported and strengthened.
Canada should weigh in firmly and constructively by supporting serious peace talks and international diplomatic efforts that reduce tensions and protect civilians, while keeping human rights at the centre. Canada must press for an immediate end to violence against peaceful protesters, the release of those detained for exercising fundamental freedoms, accountability for abuses, and restored access to information, including an end to internet shutdowns and censorship.
The Green Party of Canada will continue to stand with Iranian Canadians and all those calling for human rights, safety, and peace.
