Dear Prime Minister Mark Carney,

Too many people in Canada are living with the fear that their home could be taken away, or already living without a home at all. Rents are out of control, shelters are full, and housing has become a source of stress instead of stability. The right to housing is recognized in Canadian law. It’s time our government acted like it.

I’m calling on you to take immediate, meaningful action to make housing more affordable and secure for everyone in Canada. That means:

· Making sure federally funded homes are truly affordable by requiring that rents be no more than 30% of a person’s income.

· Investing directly in co-ops, non-profits, and public housing so people have permanently affordable places to live.

· Restoring the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation’s mandate to build non-market housing — and ending public subsidies for corporate landlords.

· Making the ban on foreign ownership of homes permanent to keep housing for people who live here, not investors.

· Cracking down on corporate speculation that drives up prices and pushes people out of their communities.

This is a chance to build a better future, one where housing is treated as a human right, not a commodity.
