Former Kitchener Centre MP Mike Morrice was announced as a new Deputy Leader for the Green Party of Canada, a position he hopes can help to further amplify his community’s priorities on the national stage.

“Since I first ran to represent Kitchener Centre in 2019, I have used the platforms available to me to make meaningful progress on our local priorities,” said Morrice. “By connecting with communities like ours which continue to face affordability, housing, and mental health crises, we can build the necessary momentum required for the change we need.”

Green Party of Canada Leader Elizabeth May was in Waterloo Region to announce Morrice as the party’s newest deputy leader, joining Deputy Leader Rainbow Eyes, whose current term started in 2024.

“Working with Mike Morrice has been a highlight as my time as MP and Green Party leader, as we prepare for the next chapter of our growth as a party and a movement, I am thrilled Mike has agreed to serve in this leadership role,” said Ms. May. “Work from his time as MP on affordability, housing, and pushing for the Canada Disability Benefit continues to improve the lives of people across Canada and I can’t wait to see what he does next.”

Morrice was elected in 2021, running on a platform to put his neighbours’ priorities over partisan politics. He lost his seat by 300 votes in 2025 and is already the confirmed candidate for Kitchener Centre for the next federal election.
