Statement on removal of Shadow Cabinet members

(OTTAWA) - The Green Party of Canada is aware of recent comments published by some Shadow Cabinet members and former candidates regarding the views of a provincial leader. Members are free to express their opinions, however they are asked to do so while making explicit they are speaking as individuals, and not on behalf of the Party. In this case, three members of Shadow Cabinet unfortunately chose to criticize the leader of a provincial party while using their official GPC titles. This inappropriate use of a Party position has resulted in the removal of Lisa Barrett, Colin Griffiths and Dimitri Lascaris from Shadow Cabinet.

The GPC Shadow Cabinet is an alternative cabinet to the government which shadows and provides critical opposition on policy matters to the government’s position. As per the GPC's constitution, Shadow Cabinet members are appointed by the Leader and can be removed or replaced at the Leader's discretion.
