Elizabeth May named one of Canada’s Top 3 Most Valuable MPs for 2013

OTTAWA – Elizabeth May, Leader of the Green Party of Canada and Member of Parliament for Saanich–Gulf Islands has been named one of Canada’s Most Valuable Members of Parliament in The Hill Times’ Annual Most Valuable Politician & All Politics Poll. May placed second in the category, behind Liberal Leader Justin Trudeau.

May also placed highly in the "Best Up-and-comer MP" category, tying with Nathan Cullen for third place, with Conservative MP Michelle Rempel placing second and Trudeau first.  Last year, May earned top honours in the Hardest Working MP and Best Constituency MP categories in the Hill Times survey.

“I am so honoured to be recognized by the Hill Times for my work in the House of Commons,” said May. “It is wonderful to be named one of the Most Valuable Members of Parliament, but I truly believe that I just do the work all MPs should do – Represent my constituents first and foremost, and do my best to improve legislation.”

This recognition from the Hill Times follows the Green Leader winning Hardest Working MP of 2013 at Maclean’s annual Parliamentarian of the Year wards in November. May was named Parliamentarian of the Year in 2012.

The two surveys are based on very different selection methods - Macleans asks for every MP to vote for their top picks from among their peers, while The Hill Times uses a survey of political watchers, overseen by Forum Research.
