St. John's East

David Peters was born in St. John’s in 1963, the son of David and Dorothy Peters. His early childhood was guided in no small measure by his three older sisters, and together they grew up in a comfortable neighbourhood in the east end of the city.

Educated at Harrington, Holloway, MacPherson and Prince of Wales Collegiate, David graduated from high school in 1980 with a Centenary of Responsible Government Scholarship. Study at Memorial University followed, and he received a Bachelor of Commerce degree in 1985.

Impatient to take on the world, David spent a year living and working in Ontario. He returned to St. John’s in the fall of 1986, where he was able to land a good job at Newfoundland Telephone. In 1992 he became reacquainted with an old friend from high school, which blossomed into romance and marriage to Gail Sullivan in 1993. Their son John was born in 1996 and daughter Ann was born in 1998.

Finding further studies in Commerce not to his taste, David began taking night courses at Memorial throughout the 1990s, culminating in a Bachelor of Arts in in 1999 and a Master of Arts in Sociology in 2003. Between 2007 and 2013 he taught undergraduate courses at Memorial as an adjunct faculty.

The 2000s was a decade of intense parenting. David coached hockey and soccer teams, and made endless trips to and from piano, voice, dance, taekwondo and swimming lessons. It was a beautiful time, watching his cherished children come of age.

After twenty-eight years with the telephone company, David is pursuing new horizons. He is a prolific musician with modest skill. He and his band mates in the TERRS play a regular volunteer gig at Daffodil Place in St. John’s. He is an enthusiastic supporter of several charities.

David is dedicating the remainder of his life toward positive change; in the environmental, peace and social justice movements. To this end, he looks forward to meeting with and working with constituents over the coming months and years to find solutions to the challenges we face as a riding, province and country.

The Green Party of Canada is excited to have David Peters as our candidate in the riding of St. John's East.
