TVA Must Explain Why It Favours the Bloc

(MONTREAL) – Statement by Daniel Green, Deputy Green Leader and candidate (Ville-Marie–le Sud Ouest–Îles-des-Sœurs), about the exclusion of the Green Party from TVA’s leaders’ debate:

“With three MPs [Elizabeth May, Bruce Hyer, José Núñez-Melo], the Green Party of Canada has one more member than the Bloc Québécois. How can TVA justify the inclusion of the Bloc and the exclusion of the Greens from its debate? Can this partiality be explained by the friendship between Pierre Karl Péladeau –still closely linked to TVA–and Gilles Duceppe?”

“How can a private or public broadcaster justify the exclusion of a national party leader? Using what criteria? Transparency and integrity are expected from every broadcaster, especially during a campaign. Are Quebecers second-class voters to TVA? Shouldn’t they be fully informed of issues important to their daily lives?”

“What is certain is that Quebec voters are the ones losing out. Elizabeth offers us a different and enthusiastic vision for the country. She is the only woman party leader. TVA’s refusal to include her in the debate is a black eye to our democracy.”
