(OTTAWA) – Claire Martin, scientist, climatologist, and former CBC national forecaster, announced at a press conference today, that she will seek the Green Party nomination for the riding of North Vancouver.
“I have been a Green Party supporter and voter for years, so seeking the Party’s nomination in North Vancouver feels like a natural step for me,” said Claire Martin. “With the help of Elizabeth May and other Green MPs, I plan to help shape the future of our country in a responsible way that truly reflects how Canadians feel.”
Elizabeth May, who attended today’s press conference, had this to say:
“Like millions of Canadians, I have trusted Claire for years. I have trusted her scientific explanations of the differences between weather and climate, and I have trusted her essential commitment to science,” said Elizabeth May, Leader of the Green Party of Canada and Member of Parliament for Saanich – Gulf Islands.
The North Vancouver Green Party EDA will hold a nomination meeting tonight at 6:30 p.m. PDT.

Background: Claire Martin
Claire Martin, an award-winning TV presenter and a veteran of the Canadian media industry has worked both on and off camera for public and private broadcasters for over 20 years.
Claire started winning over audiences in Edmonton, Alberta where in 1999 and again in 2000, she was awarded AMPIA's (Alberta Motion Picture Industry Award) for "Best Female Host" and "Best Produced Educational Video" for writing and appearing in science videos designed to promote the Grade 5-8 science unit in the Alberta Public School science curriculum.
The International Weather Festival awarded Claire Martin the honour of "Best Weather Presenter in the World" in 2000 (Paris, France), 2001 (Quebec City, Canada) and 2003 (Zagreb, Croatia) beating out CNN and the BBC.
By 2005, Claire had moved to national TV audiences and continued to receive worldwide recognition of her on-air work, as well as her passionate involvement with the UN.
In 2014, Claire capped off her on-air recognition with a Canadian Screen Actor nomination for TV news broadcasting.
Claire grew up in England and moved to Canada in 1989. She is a niece of Barbara Edwards, who in 1974 became the BBC's first female weather presenter in the UK.
