Victoria: Elizabeth May Attending Oak Bay-Gordon Head Provincial Nomination Meeting

Elizabeth May, Member of Parliament for Saanich-Gulf Islands, and Leader of the Green Party of Canada, will be attending the nomination meeting for the provincial riding of Oak Bay-Gordon Head, where Dr. Andrew Weaver will become the BC Greens candidate for the May 2013 election.

Dr. Weaver was born and raised in Victoria, graduating from Oak Bay High School in 1979 and the University of Victoria in 1983. After studying and working in England, Australia, the United States and Québec, he returned to the University of Victoria in 1992 where he is now the Lansdowne Professor and Canada Research Chair in climate modellingand analysis in the School of Earth and Ocean Sciences.

Weaver’s work on climate science and policy has earned him numerous national and international awards. These include Killam and Guggenheim fellowships, the Miroslaw Romanowski medal of the Royal Society of Canada and the A.G. Huntsman Award for Excellence in Marine Science. He has also acted as a Lead Author in the United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th scientific assessments, and has served on, or chaired, numerous national and international committees.
