Greens celebrate the establishment of “Lindsey’s Law”

OTTAWA – Green Party Leader Elizabeth May, M.P. for Saanich-Gulf Islands, extended her personal thanks to Minister of Finance Jim Flaherty for, at long last, moving to establish a DNA database to cross-reference crime scene data with an index for missing persons.

“My constituent Judy Peterson has waited twenty long years for action.  This measure, named for her daughter Lindsey who disappeared twenty years ago in August 1993, is an important measure to solve crimes and help families, “said Elizabeth May. “Judy vowed that she did not want to face another Mother’s Day without seeing Lindsey’s Law come into being. Today, with $8.1 million over five years pledged to this crucial measure, her commitment and perseverance has been rewarded.  I also want to thank the MP for Vancouver Island North, John Duncan, for his invaluable assistance.”
