Commentaire officiel du parti

This motion adds to the current policy that supports the recognition of the Palestinian right to statehood and calls for an end to the collective siege of Gaza so that medical and humanitarian aid can be provided.

Préambule

WHEREAS territories recognized under International law as Palestinian are occupied by Israel;

WHEREAS the Canada-Israel free trade agreement does not require Israel to recognize products and services from these territories as Palestinian;

WHEREAS the Palestinian people require fair and just representation in trade law;

WHEREAS the Canada Israel free trade agreement refers to the territory of the party of Israel, but makes no case for Palestinian territory or attempt to address the issue of these territories in any manner whatsoever (http://www.international.gc.ca/trade-agreements-accords-commerciaux/agr-...);

WHEREAS The European Court of Justice maintained a clear legal distinction between Israel and the Palestinian territories, regardless of whether the Israel controls any of those areas thus creating a stronger international legal precedent ;

WHEREAS social justice is a key value of the Green Party of Canada;

Dispositif

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED THAT the Green Party of Canada would seek to introduce legislation that would amend the Canada Israel free trade agreement.  This change would require Israel to label as Palestinian, products and services from lands recognized under international law as Palestinian territory.
