OTTAWA\u2014<\/strong>What do Prime Minister Mark Carney\u2019s first 100 days tell us about his climate intentions? The answer was made clear in today\u2019s industrial strategy announcement: repeal without replacement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At his press conference, Carney confirmed his plan to pause the electric vehicle (EV) mandate, while providing no replacement policy to keep Canada on track toward decarbonization. This decision adds to Carney\u2019s rapidly growing list of climate rollbacks like his decision to scrap the consumer carbon price, a meaningful tool for reducing emissions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Further compounding these concerns was Carney\u2019s Speech from the Throne, which failed to mention Canada\u2019s Paris Agreement targets. At a moment when floods, heatwaves, and wildfires are devastating communities, Canadians need bold climate leadership, not omissions and repeals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Green Party of Canada is calling on Mark Carney to take a page from his own book, Value(s): Building a Better World for All.<\/em> In it, Carney clearly identified the climate emergency as one of the most existential threats of our time and signaled the urgent need for decisive, collective action. Yet as Prime Minister, he has abandoned that conviction, spending his time dismantling climate policies instead of strengthening them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cCarney\u2019s first hundred days show us clearly that he is rolling back climate action at every turn. Scrapping the carbon price, dismantling legislation, cancelling the EV mandate, these are not the decisions of a leader serious about the climate emergency,\u201d said Elizabeth May, MP for Saanich – Gulf Islands and Leader of the Green Party of Canada.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Green Party is calling on the government to reverse course and deliver the climate leadership Canadians need: a transparent and science-based climate budget, a firm and ambitious zero-emissions vehicle mandate, and bold policies that restore Canada\u2019s path to meeting\u2014and exceeding\u2014our Paris commitments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe Prime Minister knows what needs to be done, he wrote about it in his own book. It\u2019s time he acted on those words. Canadians need a government that recognizes we are out of time for delays, half-measures, and reversals. The climate crisis demands bold, science-based action. Anything less is failure,\u201d May continued.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Canada cannot afford to go backwards. The Green Party will continue to fight for urgent, decisive action that matches the scale of the climate crisis and secures a livable future for generations to come.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
