B grade marks best overall rating among all federal parties<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

OTTAWA \u2013 The Green Party of Canada strives to get an A grade, but it gladly recognizes that it is receiving the highest grade\u2014a B\u2014in Democracy Watch\u2019s 2025 Report Card on Federal Parties\u2019 Democratic Reform Platforms. This places the Greens ahead of all other federal parties, which received notably lower ratings: C- for the NDP, the Bloc and the Conservatives, while the Liberals earned a D- and the People\u2019s Party of Canada received an F.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Since 1993, Democracy Watch has evaluated federal party platforms on democratic reform, and no party has ever received a grade higher than a B. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Green Party\u2019s platform was recognized for being detailed and comprehensive in four of the five areas evaluated by Democracy Watch<\/em>, including ethics in politics, government accountability, citizen participation, and lobbying transparency. The party was also commended for again committing to a partial honesty-in-politics law\u2014a long-standing proposal from Democracy Watch aimed at increasing political integrity in Canada.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe are honoured to receive the highest grade in this important assessment of democratic reform,\u201d said Elizabeth May, Green Party co-leader and MP for Saanich\u2013Gulf Islands. \u201cCanadians deserve a government they can trust, with transparent decision-making, real accountability, and elected officials who act with integrity. Greens have always led the way on these principles, and we\u2019ll continue pushing for reforms that restore faith in our democratic institutions.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Green Party\u2019s commitments include implementing truth in politics legislation, strengthening ethics rules for politicians, improving whistleblower protections, reducing partisan control over parliamentary operations, and ensuring proportional representation in federal elections. These long-standing Green priorities are rooted in the belief that democracy must serve the public good\u2014not party insiders or wealthy lobbyists.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
