Statement on National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women

OTTAWA — Thirty-two years ago at l’École Polytechnique de Montréal , 14 women – 13 students and an administrator – were murdered. They were killed because they were women.

“Today, as we remember and mourn the victims of that horrific attack, we must also remember that far too many people in Canada continue to experience gender-based violence,” said interim Green Party Leader Amita Kuttner.

“We must do more to confront misogyny in all its forms, by exploring its root causes and addressing the cultural factors that encourage such attitudes to flourish,” said Dr. Kuttner.

“The Green Party reaffirms its commitment to expanding education programs on consent, respect and gender equality. We will work to make life safer for all women, girls and 2SLGBTQQIA people.”
