Green Party Statement on the anniversary of the end of armed conflict in Sri Lanka

OTTAWA  – Today, the Green Party of Canada marks the 12th anniversary of the end of the armed conflict in Sri Lanka. The decades-long civil war devastated the nation, leaving families and communities suffering from its deadly impacts.

“Our thoughts are with those who lost loved ones, and with the families and communities whose lives were forever changed by this conflict,” said Green Party Leader Annamie Paul. “As we reflect on that painful period, we hope that the government of Sri Lanka will continue to strive for justice, accountability and inclusion.

“The suffering and divisions caused by conflict can endure for generations. Healing and reconciliation will take time as Sri Lankans work together to create a future that ensures continued peace and prosperity for all its citizens."
