Green Party of Canada’s announces the resignation of Executive Director

OTTAWA – The Green Party of Canada is announcing today that Prateek Awasthi is stepping down as Executive Director.

“I signed up to help lead this party through its transition to a new leader. That goal has been accomplished and I couldn’t be happier with the work of Green Party staff and volunteers. This has been an incredible task and I commend our team for how they have risen to it under very difficult circumstances. I recognize that allegations against me, while untrue, are a distraction to the work of the party,” said Mr. Awasthi, who took on the role in May.

Outgoing Interim Leader Jo-Ann Roberts said:  “Prateek has done a great deal for the Green Party in a short period of time, building staff, putting an emphasis on diversity, ensuring we have the financial resources for the next election. I have really enjoyed working with him and appreciate him seeing us through to the end of this successful leadership race. We wish him the best of luck in his next endeavor.”

The Deputy Executive Director Anik Lajoie will take on Interim duties of Executive Director effective immediately.
