Green Party Statement for Canada Day 2020

OTTAWA – The Green Party is excited to join Canadians everywhere for the National Virtual Canada Day Celebrations: Canada Day Across the Country. The daytime and evening shows, hosted by Serena Ryder and Pierre-Yves Lord, will feature talented artists from coast to coast to coast.

“I invite Canadians to take a moment today to reflect on what makes Canada strong,” said Green Party Interim Leader Jo-Ann Roberts. “The rich cultural diversity of people across this nation is reflected in the multi faceted tapestry of communities large and small. The generosity of spirit and the enduring patience of First Nations, Métis and Inuit people, reminds us that it is essential to honour our commitment to truth and reconciliation.

“This Canada Day will be very different because of COVID-19, but I know Canadians will rise to the occasion and celebrate in their own unique ways. The last few months have been a difficult and emotional time for so many, but communities have come together to support each other. I am grateful to live in a country that values democracy and justice. These past few weeks have shown us we have more work to do. However, I am hopeful together we can reimagine a future where we are reunited, renewed and resilient.

“On behalf of the Green Party of Canada, I wish everyone a joyful Canada Day.”
