Green Party of Canada celebrates Chinese New Year

OTTAWA  — Across Canada and around the world, Chinese communities will begin their New Year celebrations today to welcome the Year of the Rat. Sometimes referred to as the Spring Festival (Lunar New Year), this is a festive, colourful time that will last for a couple of weeks.

“Chinese Canadians contribute greatly to our society and our shared cultural heritage,”  said Green Party Interim Leader Jo-Ann Roberts.  “We encourage all Canadians to join their Chinese friends and neighbours in celebrations, banquets, parades and fireworks. While this is a period of celebration, our thoughts are with those whose travel plans and celebrations have been affected by the recent coronavirus outbreak.

“On behalf of the Green Party of Canada I extend good wishes for a joyful, prosperous new year.  恭喜發財 Kung Hei Fat Choi!”
