OTTAWA -- The Green Party of Canada would like to extend warm wishes to all Sikh-Canadians for a peaceful and joyous Vaisakhi.
The celebration of Vaisakhi commemorates the creation of the Khalsa by Guru Gobind Singh Ji and is also a celebration of the spring harvest festival for the Sikhs. Across Canada and around the world friends and families will gather to read sacred texts at Gurdwaras. City streets will light up with festivities and Khalsa Day parades. This joyful occasion also marks the Punjabi and Sikh new year.
Canadians join with members of the Sikh community in promoting equality, justice and peace at this time. On behalf of Elizabeth May, Leader of the Green Party of Canada (MP, Saanich-Gulf Islands) and all Greens, we wish everyone a happy Vaisakhi!
