Statement on Canadian Multiculturalism Day 2016

(OTTAWA) June 27, 2016 – The Green Party of Canada released the following statement on Canadian Multiculturalism Day:

“Today we celebrate the many diverse cultures that make up our great country,” said Elizabeth May, Leader of the Green Party of Canada (MP, Saanich-Gulf Islands). “Around the world, Canada is known for its inclusion and multicultural identity, one that continues to propel us forward culturally, economically and politically.

“The Canadian Multiculturalism Act enshrines the protection of our multicultural heritage, the rights of Indigenous peoples, our two official languages, and the right of minority groups to enjoy their cultures in Canada. Ecologists know that ecosystems are more resilient with greater species diversity. So too, do human societies benefit from diversity. Cultural diversity makes us stronger.
