Green Party of Canada statement on Yom HaShoah, Holocaust Memorial Day

(OTTAWA) May 5, 2016 – Elizabeth May, Leader of the Green Party of Canada (MP, Saanich-Gulf Islands), released the following statement on Yom HaShoah, Holocaust Memorial Day:

“Today, as Jewish Canadians commemorate the victims of the Holocaust, we turn our minds to a painful chapter of global history. Between 1933 and 1945, more than six million Jews were murdered by a Nazi-led regime throughout Europe. Today, we honour the brave survivors, and remember those who fought so valiantly to protect and save the lives of others.”

“The world must be vigilant to never again allow such a horrific genocidal slaughter. Today, the Green Party of Canada extends our thoughts and prayers to everyone observing Yom HaShoah.”

Ms. May will deliver an address at the 2016 National Holocaust Remembrance Day Ceremony at 3:30 p.m. at the Canadian War Museum in Ottawa. The theme of the 2016 National Ceremony is “The Struggle to Maintain the Human Spirit During the Holocaust."
