Laura Reinsborough was born and raised on the Tantramar Marshes in Sackville, New Brunswick, with Acadian roots along the cultural coast. She was named one of “40 Changemakers in Canada” by Canadian Living Magazine for founding an award-winning environmental initiative that inspired thousands of volunteers. Home in New Brunswick, she is the Director of Food For All NB and an active volunteer in the region. She lives in Sackville with her husband and their two children.

Laura is deeply rooted in the land and culture of the Beauséjour region. She spent her childhood summers near Bouctouche, where her father was born. Her father taught at Mount Allison University, and her aunt, Marguerite Michaud, is well-known in the region for having been the first Acadian woman to receive a university bachelor’s degree. Laura has followed proudly in the footsteps of her great-aunt by earning a master’s degree in Environmental Studies from York University in Toronto, after first studying at Mount Allison.

Laura has an innate ability to spark positive change. In Toronto, she founded an innovative non-profit called Not Far From The Tree. She has been recognized with the Gaea Award from the WIFTS Foundation, the Women of the Earth Award from the Yves Rocher Foundation, and the Toronto Community Foundation’s Vital People Award. The Mayor of Toronto featured her in a book of inspiring citizens and she was named one of “Toronto’s Best and Brightest Under 30” by Post City Magazine.

Since returning to New Brunswick four years ago, Laura has been an active volunteer with various community groups including: Slow Food Cocagne Acadie, the Joggins Fossil Institute, Co-operation in Agri-food New Brunswick (CANB), Beauséjour Renewable Energy, the Sackville Refugee Response Coalition, Sackville Schools 2020, and the York Street Children’s Centre.

Laura holds the unwavering belief that we have all the solutions we need at our fingertips. From climate change to economic inequality, the solutions are known and viable. What we need now is action.

The Green Party of Canada is thrilled to have Laura step forward as a candidate with the bold leadership that is needed for our time.
