Green Party of Canada Announces New Shadow Cabinet

OTTAWA - The Leader of the Green Party of Canada, Annamie Paul, has announced the first members of the newest cohort of the Green Party of Canada Shadow Cabinet. Over the course of the week, new Critics and Deputy Critics will be announced each day.

“I am thrilled to welcome the first members to their new roles as Critics in our Shadow Cabinet,” said Ms. Paul. “Not only is this one of the most diverse Shadow Cabinets in the Green Party’s history, it is also the most experienced and qualified cabinet we have ever showcased. It truly demonstrates the breadth and depth of talent within the Green Party of Canada, and I look forward to working closely with each of them.”

This spring, in fulfilment of a campaign promise, the Leader launched an open call to all Green members to apply for the Green Party Shadow Cabinet – a first in the party’s history. The response was overwhelming, and the party received over 150 applications from members across the country.

Members of the Shadow Cabinet play a vital role in the party, and bring a wealth of knowledge and expertise to their portfolios. The Cabinet collectively holds 7 PhDs and multiple national awards for excellence. From leading academics, to award-winning activists, to community advocates, every Shadow Cabinet member has a proven intellectual and community commitment to advancing Green policies.

“To every member who put their name forward, I thank you. We continue to be delighted by the tremendous talent in our membership,” said Ms. Paul. “With the announcement of the new Shadow Cabinet and the nomination of candidates who applied through our Time to Run campaign, I am proud to say that we are fulfilling our promise of building the diversity of the Green Party of Canada.”
