Green Party’s Annamie Paul will run in Toronto Centre by-election

OTTAWA  – The Green Party of Canada is pleased to announce that Annamie Paul has been chosen by Toronto Centre EDA to run in the upcoming federal by-election.  The by-elections for Toronto Centre and York Centre were announced on September 18, 2020.

The Party’s leadership contest, which is still underway, means that the Party is obliged to remain neutral. All leadership contestants were granted the opportunity to apply for nomination in both byelections. The Green Party will not provide direct support to Annamie Paul’s campaign until the leadership contest is completed.

“We’re confident the members and volunteers of Toronto Centre will run a strong campaign,” said Green Party Interim Leader Jo-Ann Roberts. “Annamie ran for the Greens in Toronto Centre during the 2019 federal election and built a strong team.”

The new Leader of the Green Party will be announced during a live-streamed event in Ottawa on the evening of October 3, 2020. The by-election in Toronto Centre will hold their byelection on October 26, 2020.

The eight contests are (in alphabetical order): Meryam Haddad (QC), Courtney Howard (NWT), Amita Kuttner (BC), Dimitri Lascaris (QC), David Merner (BC), Glen Murray (MB), Annamie Paul (ON), and Andrew West (ON).
