OTTAWA — Leader of the Green Party, Elizabeth May (MP, Saanich-Gulf Islands) has appointed Deputy Leader Daniel Green (Outremont, QC) as critic for the Environment on her Shadow Cabinet. The Shadow Cabinet develops party positions based on policies adopted by Green Party membership.
Daniel Green, has worked for more than 30 years on the issue of toxic substances in the environment. His mandate is popularizing scientific knowledge in the field of ecotoxicology and managing outreach and public information programs.
“I am deeply humbled and honoured to be appointed as the Green Party Environment Critic, “ said Mr. Green. “My entire professional life has been devoted to protecting the environment and ensuring people’s right to live in a healthy environment. My expertise in environmental toxicology will help the party craft public policies and laws necessary to protect people, wildlife, water, air and soil from environmental contamination.”
“For years Daniel has worked relentlessly to address issues of the environment,” said Green Party Leader Elizabeth May (MP, Saanich-Gulf Islands). “He’s a champion for people fighting against pollution of all kinds, especially asbestos. Daniel Green is well-respected across Canada for the role he has played in issues from the Sydney Tar Ponds to the Lac Megantic disaster. He will be a tremendous advisor on matters of the environment.”
Mr. Green’s interventions on the issue of environmental contamination have led him to cooperate with various environmental and citizen associations experiencing contamination problems in their communities. Over the years, he has managed to build a capacity to understand complex scientific problems in ecotoxicology and make this knowledge accessible to the general public.
