Astrophysicist Amita Kuttner new Green Party Science and Innovation Critic

OTTAWA —  Leader of the Green Party, Elizabeth May (MP, Saanich-Gulf Islands) has appointed Dr. Amita Kuttner (Burnaby North-Seymour, B.C.) as critic for Science and Innovation on her Shadow Cabinet. The Shadow Cabinet develops party positions based on policies adopted by Green Party membership.

With a PhD in astronomy & astrophysics, Amita Kuttner brings important experience and perspectives that will help the Party to shape and implement evidence-based policy. The extreme challenges brought on by a rapidly changing climate, advancements in artificial intelligence and other emerging technologies will necessitate finding innovative solutions. Dr. Kuttner’s expertise will provide critical insight on these matters. 

“Amita Kuttner is a brilliant scientist whose work in the field of AI will help us navigate the fast-paced changes in technology and the workforce,” said Green Party Leader Elizabeth May (MP, Saanich-Gulf Islands). “Amita’s tuned in to current technological advances as well as the youth demographic. She will be a valued member of the advisory panel.”

Dr. Kuttner, who personally experienced the impacts of extreme weather when her family home in North Vancouver was destroyed by a mudslide is excited to be running as the Green Party candidate in Burnaby North-Seymour. “The perspective I have gained from studying the cosmos and surviving tragedy leads me to value every day,” said Kuttner. “I intend to work tirelessly to protect the Earth and its inhabitants. I am deeply concerned about the environment, the effects of job automation, and the rapid advancements in artificial intelligence and other emerging technologies.”
