SIDNEY, B.C. -- The Leader of the Green Party of Canada, Elizabeth May will marry John Kidder in Victoria, B.C., on International Earth Day. The joyful occasion will take place at Christ Church Cathedral at noon.
The wedding will be a ‘low-carbon’ affair. Guests have been encouraged to arrive by bicycle, bus, train and/or ferry to minimize their carbon footprint. The newlyweds will spend their honeymoon on the train from Vancouver to Ottawa. In lieu of gifts friends and family have been asked to support one or all of three charities: Help Lesotho, First Nations Child and Caring Society and Kiva.
Island friends have collaborated to fashion floral wreaths and bouquets with locally sourced flowers, while Ms. May’s wedding dress is designed and created by Salt Spring Islander, Sue Earle.
John and Elizabeth share a deep commitment to planetary issues. They met in the 2013 B.C. provincial election where John was a Green Party candidate in the B.C. interior. In 1983, Mr. Kidder was one of the founders of the Green Party of B.C., the first Green Party in North America.
The Green Party of Canada extends fond wishes to our dedicated leader and her fiancé for much happiness in their life together.
