Green Party of Canada makes a strong third place finish in Outremont By-election

OTTAWA - “A huge congratulations to Daniel Green on a strong finish ahead of the Bloc Québécois, the Conservatives and the People’s Party of Canada in the Outremont by-election,” said Leader of the Green Party of Canada, Elizabeth May (MP, Saanich-Gulf Islands). “There’s a green momentum building. Green Party wins in British Columbia, New Brunswick, Ontario and P.E.I. demonstrate that voters want to elect candidates that get the big picture. In October Canadians will choose the party with solutions to the most pressing issues.”

Deputy Leader of the Green Party, Daniel Green, won 13% of the vote in Outremont to gain a third place finish in yesterday’s by-election. In 2017, Mr. Green beat the NDP on the St. Laurent by-election. Well known in environmental circles he has worked diligently to fight pollution in Quebec. “The Green Party of Canada has now become a political force in Quebec,” said Mr. Green. “The citizens of Outremont show us that Quebecers aspire to a greener, fairer and more democratic society and that a real economic, ecological and energy transition is needed to deal with the climate emergency.”

“Since the 2015 election, support for Greens in Outremont more than tripled. Daniel Green addresses issues that matter to Quebecers - toxic threats, health issues, rail safety, and climate.  His voice should be in Parliament,” said Ms May.
