Statement on new premier-designate in British Columbia

(OTTAWA) – Elizabeth May, Leader of the Green Party of Canada (MP, Saanich-Gulf Islands), released the following statement:

“After the predictable politics of the last seven weeks from outgoing Premier Christy Clark, I congratulate Premier-designate John Horgan. Through a responsible and clearly outlined agreement with BC Greens Leader Andrew Weaver and his fellow BC Greens MLAs, this new government can provide stable, progressive leadership and show all of Canada that politics can be done differently,” Ms. May said.

“Greens across Canada look forward the the new BC government moving forward on elements of the NDP-Green agreement, including the fentanyl crisis, adequate education funding, electoral reform, climate action, getting big money out of politics, establishing a pilot project on guaranteed liveable income, and adopting the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples.

“I also look forward to working with the new BC government on finally halting the Kinder Morgan Trans Mountain pipeline project, and the environmentally destructive and unnecessary Site C Dam.

“Today is a good day for British Columbia.”
