Green vote more than doubles in PEI Summerside-Wilmot byelection

(OTTAWA) – Elizabeth May, Leader of the Green Party of Canada (MP, Saanich-Gulf Islands), released the following statement:

“Congratulations to PEI Green Deputy Leader Lynne Lund for her strong showing of 22% in yesterday’s Summerside-Wilmot byelection. Prince Edward Islanders understand Greens represent real, principled, grassroots change in their province,” Ms. May said. "Lynne and her team ran an excellent campaign, more than doubling the Green vote from the 2015 general provincial election.

“Under the leadership of PEI Green Leader and MLA Peter Bevan-Baker, Greens are now working hard to educate voters on the upcoming plebiscite to update the province’s electoral system. From Oct. 29 to Nov. 7, I urge all PEI voters to lead the country in choosing a system of proportional representation. It’s time to update our voting system in PEI and across Canada.”
