Green Party Welcomes Deborah Coyne as Candidate for Carleton

(OTTAWA) - The Green Party of Canada welcomes Deborah Coyne as its candidate for the federal riding of Carleton.

“Deborah has contributed greatly in her recent role as my senior policy advisor and now as Justice critic in my Shadow Cabinet” said Elizabeth May, Leader of the Green Party of Canada and MP (Saanich—Gulf Islands). “She has played an important role in helping the Party present a refreshing vision to Canadians—one that we are confident will appeal to Canadians across the country. I look forward to benefiting from Deborah’s expertise and commitment to Canada as a colleague in our next Parliament.”

Carleton Green Party members nominated Ms. Coyne at a nomination meeting held in Ottawa today. (Read the announcement here).

As a lawyer, university professor, constitutional activist, public servant and writer, Ms. Coyne’s skills and hard work have placed her inside the great public debates of our times. Committed to building a better Canada that depends on bold national leadership and coherent national government, she will be running against Pierre Poilievre, the current Minister of Employment and Social Development, and Minister of State for Democratic Reform.

“I look forward to taking on Pierre Poilievre and I intend to provide the residents of Carleton with thoughtful, principled representation in Parliament and a fresh approach to the challenges we face,” Ms. Coyne said.

“This is the election when we take back Canada. This is the year we choose a fresh beginning over the status quo of the established parties.”

“By setting a high standard for thoughtful representation, reasonable compromise, and bringing Canadians together, Elizabeth May has strengthened the Green Party as a genuine party of the people, not the elites.  A party of principle focused on the future, not just the next election.”

“In the Green Party, I have found the party of One Canada for all Canadians, with the ideas, credibility and energy to get us working together again,” Ms. Coyne added.
