For Immediate Release: Elizabeth May leaves for Lima Peru today to participate in COP 20

Canada’s only opposition Member of Parliament attending the meetings

(Ottawa) - Elizabeth May, Leader of the Green Party of Canada and Member of Parliament for Saanich- Gulf Islands, leaves for today for Lima Peru from Toronto Pearson International Airport.

Ms. May will participate in the 20th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP 20) in Lima, Peru as part of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC).

Surprisingly, Elizabeth May is the only Opposition Member of Parliament who has confirmed her attendance at the meetings.

COP 20 intends to build frameworks to combat the dangers of increasing greenhouse gases in the atmosphere. The Conference includes 195 parties and ENGOs. For more information on the 20th session of the United Nations Conference of Parties, please visit: http://www.cop20lima.org/about/cop20
