VANCOUVER – Adriane Carr is stepping down as Deputy Leader of the Green Party of Canada, in order to focus on her campaign for re-election to Vancouver City Council.
Carr has served as Deputy Leader of the Greens since 2006. As the former Chair of the Party’s Shadow Cabinet, the founder of the Women’s Caucus, and a founding member and the first Leader of the Green Party of British Columbia, Carr has been at the forefront of the Green movement in Canada for over thirty years.
“It’s been a lot of work, a lot of fun, and immensely satisfying to know I have made a difference in moving our party forward,” said Carr.
In a letter to Party supporters sent Monday, Elizabeth May, Green Leader and Member of Parliament for Saanich–Gulf Islands, stated: “We know that the City of Vancouver will be well served by Adriane’s leadership and vision in the years to come.”
"With Green Party candidates elected at all three levels of government in British Columbia, Adriane Carr's legacy in building this movement is secure," said May. "It can only grow from here."
