MONTREAL -- On October 22, Danny Polifroni was acclaimed as the nominated candidate by the Green Party of Canada to replace Georges Laraque in the next by-election that will occur November 25 in the Bourassa riding.
Danny Polifroni, age 30, was born and raised in Rivière-des-Prairies. He graduated from the University of Concordia in 2006 with a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, and has worked in the renewable energy and aerospace industries for several years. During his undergraduate studies, Mr. Polifroni worked with the NGO Engineers without Borders, where he served as the Director of Education. In this capacity, he organized events, including an outreach and educational tour of secondary schools.
Mr. Polifroni has been a member of the Green Party of Canada since 2008 and served as a candidate in the riding of Papineau in the 2011 general elections. He is a very active member of the party, organizing events and working with Green Party electoral district associations. In addition to his work with the Green Party, Mr. Polifroni is extremely involved in the municipal level as a founding member of Quebec in Transition, an organization that strives to reduce local dependence on petroleum.
Yesterday morning during a press conference, M. Polifroni said: “I am proud and honored to have been chosen by the Green Party of Canada. Starting tonight, I will go meet the residents of Bourassa. I want to continue the work that was accomplished by Georges until now and I sincerely believe that the residents of Bourassa deserve much more than what politics is actually offering them.”
