Elizabeth May to appear before the Finance Committee to present Amendments to Bill C-43 - Budget Implementation Act

(OTTAWA) - Elizabeth May, Leader of the Green Party of  Canada and Member of Parliament for Saanich-Gulf Islands, will appear before the Standing Committee on Finance to present amendments to Bill C-43, the Fall Budget Implementation Act.

Ms. May’s amendments will seek to address the most contentious parts of the omnibus budget bill. In particular, she will focus on Division 5, Part 4 of the bill, which would allow provinces to deny social assistance to refugee claimants that are being processed or are appealing a decision from Citizenship and Immigration Canada.

Ms. May will also present substantive amendments to the Extractive Sector Transparency Act that would help ensure that Canadian companies operate responsibly overseas by reporting all the payments they make to foreign governments on a project-level basis.
