Every developed country in the world with a universal health care system provides coverage for prescription medication, except Canada.

Expanding public health insurance to cover prescription medication is not only about creating a healthier and fairer Canada – it also makes economic sense. By creating a bulk medicine buying agency, Canadians would save billions annually.

Canada’s seniors population is growing exponentially – if we don’t invest in community, home and seniors’ care now, our health care system will face a crisis tomorrow.

Green MPs Will

  • Establish a federal Crown corporation to bulk buy prescription medication to drive down the cost to provinces
  • Build on the work of the Therapeutics Initiative at UBC to ensure the gold standard of review for new medications before they are approved
  • Establish a national seniors strategy, and increase investment in preventative health care
