Free Memberships
Preamble
WHEREAS The Green Party of Canada is a grassroots political organization that holds as one of its many values, participatory democracy; and,
WHEREAS guaranteeing participation in the democratic process, the election of MPs, and the Green Party of Canada should not depend upon financial contributions; and,
WHEREAS no other national political party allows for free memberships; and,
WHEREAS the Green Party of Canada stands to grow our Party by welcoming more Canadians while at the same time setting ourselves apart from the rest of the national parties; and,
WHEREAS the Party relies on donations that make up the lions share of revenue, not memberships;
Operative
BE IT RESOLVED that the Green Party of Canada abolishes membership fees.
Background
Membership revenue makes up a very small portion of our entire revenue and it would be beneficial to eliminate the fee. The Green Party of New Brunswick and the New Brunswick Liberals eliminated membership fees are report higher than average levels of membership.
