National Aboriginal Day Grand Opening

Event Date

Friday, June 21, 2019 - 10:00 to 16:00 PDT

Event Description

Sidney Museum will have the pleasure of hosting the “Chief Dan George: Actor and Activist” exhibit which will start with a special opening ceremony on National Indigenous Peoples Day, June 21st and continue through to September 30th. The museum acknowledges and thanks the W̱SÁNEĆ people on whose traditional territory we live, learn and share the history of the Saanich Peninsula, and as such we are working for a greater inclusion of the lives and culture of the W̱SÁNEĆ people throughout the museum. That show focuses on the life and legacy of Tsleil-Waututh Chief Dan George (1899-1981), and his influence as an Indigenous rights advocate as well as his career as an actor. The exhibit also presents a timeline of significant events and individuals in the Indigenous rights movement in BC and Canada.

Elizabeth will be in attendence as well!
