Lynne Quarmby is a professor of Molecular Biology & Biochemistry at Simon Fraser University. Her research on the molecular machines of cell motion lead to a discovery about the underlying cause of Polycystic Kidney Disease. She now works on algae that live on the snow, ice and permafrost of the high Arctic, an important microbial community at risk because of climate change.
Lynne serves as Science Policy Critic on the GPC Shadow Cabinet and was the GPC candidate for Burnaby North-Seymour in 2015. As a candidate, she thrived on the opportunity to campaign on a platform aligned with my personal values. As Science Critic, she is an active proponent of discovery science and our critical federal science institutions. She fights to defend the integrity of science and is an active watchdog for evidence-based decision-making.
Lynne has served on Federal Council as the British Columbia Representative since 2016.
