ERRE Hearings with Elizabeth - Charlottetown

Event Date

Thursday, October 06, 2016 - 10:15 ADT

Event Description

Elizabeth May and the Special Committee on Electoral Reform will be travelling to Charlottetown to hear from expert witnesses and consult with Canadians on changes to our electoral system. Canadians will be able to attend the witness hearings and to have their say at open mic sessions.

Can’t make it to the meeting? Your voice can still be heard through the Committee’s E-consultation process. The E-consultation is intended to solicit Canadians’ views both on voting and on the election of Members of Parliament. The Committee’s report to the House of Commons will take into consideration the results of this consultation. Deadline is October 7th, 2016.

Show Elizabeth May that you're in her corner. Here are some of the things you might want to bring up at open mic sessions:

• You think it’s unfair that under our current voting system, a party that receives less than 50% of the votes can hold 100% of the power in parliament
• You don’t like that votes in “swing ridings” are more important than votes in “safe ridings”
• You like that voter turnout is generally higher in countries with proportional representation
• You like the fact that countries with proportional voting systems have a higher number of female and visible minority legislators

Be sure to arrive at least 30 minutes early for open mic sessions to get your name on the waiting list to speak. It is critical that the committee hear from you.

The hearings will run from 1:30--9:30 PM.

Location: Langevin Tilley Tupper Room, Delta Prince Edward, 18 Queen Street
