Elizabeth speaks at Emergency Rally Against Kinder Morgan Bailout on Parliament Hill

Event Date

Tuesday, May 22, 2018 - 17:00 to 18:00 EDT

Event Description

Elizabeth will speak at the Council of Canadians' emergency rally in response to Finance Minister Morneau's announcement that the federal government is ready to use public money to indemnify the Kinder Morgan pipeline project. The proposed bailout demonstrates the disconnect between the reality of Indigenous Title and Rights and the federal government's approach to Kinder Morgan, and breaks the Trudeau government's promise to phase out fossil fuel subsidies. Rally speakers include,

- Territorial welcome from Elder Verna McGregor, Algonquin Community of Kitigan Zibi Anishinabeg

- Grand Chief Stewart Philip, President of the Union of British Columbia Indian Chiefs (live from BC, unceded territory)

- Jagmeet Singh, Leader of the NDP

- Maude Barlow, Honorary Chairperson of the Council of Canadians
