Elizabeth May at Tornado Ground Zero Nepean: Climate Change and the September 21 tornadoes

Event Date

Wednesday, February 20, 2019 - 19:00 to 21:00 EST

Event Description

September 21, 2018 is a day many people in the greater Ottawa-Gatineau area will never forget. Such was the case for everyone living in the old-Nepean neighbourhoods of Arlington Woods and Craig Henry. Both neighbourhoods experienced significant damage—millions of dollars worth— to homes, properties, plant and animal life.

Many homes have been irreparably damaged. Many families have been displaced. The forest of 100+ year old white pine trees in Arlington Woods and the Greenbelt has been virtually wiped out. In less than 1- minute, so many lives in the national capital region were turned upside down.

Our region experiences one tornado every 10 years or so. Six tornadoes in one day is unheard of. It is not a normal occurrence for our area to experience multiple tornadoes in one storm.

This Wednesday evening at 7 PM, Green Party of Canada leader Elizabeth May will speak to local residents and Green Party supporters from across the region about climate change and its impact on extreme weather events like the Ottawa Storm of September 21st 2018. The media is invited to attend.
