Elizabeth will attend The Annual Romero Commemoration, this year featuring Bishop-Emeritus Remi De Roo and special guest speaker, Geraldine Manson, Snuneymuxw & VIU Elder who will speak about Working for Reconciliation in Nanaimo. Popular folk singer Sue Averill will provide music. Rev. Terry Richardson will be Host and MC.
Archbishop Romero was an outspoken advocate for peace and justice for the people of El Salvadore; his work aroused the hostility of the right wing government and he was assassinated while saying Mass on March 24, 1980. We honour his life & work by thinking of issues he might address if he was present now.
This event is free and open to the public. No collection will be taken but there will be a Donation Basket to support projects in Central America and among First Nations in British Columbia.
Contributions of cake or cookies would be welcome.
When: Sunday, March 24th. Doors open for tea and visiting at 3:00pm PST. The commemoration will begin at 4:00pm PST.
