Decriminalization now!

There’s less than one week before the end of this sitting of Parliament. Before summer recess comes, Canada needs life-saving action to be taken by its MPs.

With eighteen people dying each day in Canada, opioid-related deaths are at record highs - yet addiction is still treated by the government as a crime, and drug users are classified as offenders. Instead of labelling drug use as a crime, the drug use should be seen for what it is: a health issue.

Decriminalizing drug possession, providing a national safe supply and funding community supports are the actions called for by experts and advocates. The GPC support them and has called for a national plan to achieve these objectives by Canada Day, July 1.
