Elvin Kao was raised in Markham–Unionville by first-generation Canadian parents and a large extended family who immigrated to the area. Growing up, Elvin witnessed how it takes a close-knit community to raise the next generation and help newcomers lay down strong roots. From an early age, he understood the importance of small businesses—like the Chinese ethnic grocery store his grandfather opened in Toronto—in building opportunity, creating employment, and fostering belonging for new immigrants.

Elvin attended St. Justin Martyr Catholic Elementary School and Unionville High School before earning a Bachelor of Mathematics from the University of Waterloo. His career began in data analytics, where he developed a deep belief that decisions should be grounded in measurable outcomes and guided by clear, accessible data. As a product manager, Elvin combines this data-driven mindset with real-world problem-solving to build scalable solutions that improve people’s lives.

In addition to his corporate experience, Elvin is a proud small business owner. He has started and grown multiple ventures, employing dozens of people and contributing to the vibrancy of the local economy. These hands-on experiences have deepened his understanding of what small businesses need to thrive and how smart policy can help unlock their potential.

Elvin is aligned with the Green Party’s vision for sustainable, community-focused development and its commitment to evidence-based policymaking. He believes that addressing challenges like climate change requires both global collaboration and local action—and that strong, inclusive communities are the foundation for a better future.

What It Means
To Vote Green

  • It means putting communities first. Green MPs have the freedom to vote based on local priorities, not party politics. We stand firmly for Canadian communities and values against all threats.

  • It means fighting for economic fairness. Our plan provides cost-of-living relief for working Canadians while protecting jobs and businesses from economic disruptions.

  • It means building lasting prosperity. Our climate strategy creates good jobs and strong communities that can weather future challenges. We plan for generations, not election cycles.
