Tajikistan, Afghanistan, Japan

Elizabeth May

Tajikistan:
Thanks for helping a small delegation to participate meaningfully. You have restored our faith in this process. For us the key issue is financing and technology transfer.  The text on financial and adaptation is very important to us. This will help reduce our vulnerability to climate change.

Afghanistan:
Allow me to express appreciation for your excellent leadership. Finance, Adaptation and technology development and transfer....my country raised issue of mountain eco-system vulnerability, and it is not mentioned. But we will support the text. Overall this is a successful outcome.

Japan: because of this late hour and the nature of this informal meeting. On behalf of my government, I want to express admiration for the presidency. We wholeheartedly support the efforts of the Presidency and UNFCC staff. We would like to support the draft text to be supported as it is. I very much want to ask the others to join with us to support the Presidential effort.  (APPLAUSE! And Japan was the country that threw a spanner in the works. Ban-Ki Moon is rumoured to have phoned the Japanese PM to urge flexibility. Japan was denounced in full page ads. And now warmly applauded as a supporter of the text.)
