Organizing Team: Looking Ahead to 2012

While the Green Party remains focused on local activities, to reach more voters and elect more MPs, we need a solid base of supporters for 2015. We’ll build that base by creating The Green Party University.

Over the next three years, through Green Party U, we’ll train thousands of Canadians in the practices of grassroots organizing, from voter identification to campaign strategy.

We have a great opportunity to continue building the Green Party and increase our visibility. Between now and the next federal election, green communities across Canada will engage in local and national issues. Green Party U training will empower you to take local action on national petition campaigns and discover what issues people in your riding care most about.

In addition to online training, we'll host regional meetings to involve you in policy development process—in time for the biennial convention next August.

Green Party University training will include videos, handbooks, and online and in-person seminars. A long-term capacity-building project, Green Party University will come online during the first quarter of 2012. Curriculum will include membership, fundraising, database use, communications, voter identification, campaign strategy, volunteer management, political action, and much more.

We need your help to develop this curriculum:
  • We’re collecting examples of outreach activities from local riding associations. Send your success stories to Sharon Labchuk and Lynette Trembley at localoutreach@greenparty.ca.
  • We’re currently putting together a team to deliver webinars, videos and handbooks. If you have expertise in an area of organizing practice, email Rob Hines and Marlene Wells at localtraining@greenparty.ca to contribute.

While we develop Green Party U, we’ll continue to offer assistance to our riding associations. If you need help with anything EDA-related, email Robert Johnston at localassitance@greenparty.ca.

Sharing the Green Party of Canada’s collective knowledge about best practices is essential to our continued success and growth. We may have had our budget drastically cut by the Harper Conservatives, but, with the determination and knowlege of our membership we will be stronger than ever.

The organizing team is looking forward to working with you,
Johan Hamels
Executive Director
