I would appreciate the privilege to represent the New Brunswick membership at the Green Party of Canada's Federal Council. I have served for the past two years as a Member-at-Large on Federal Council and as member of the Green Party's first Management Committee. Over that period I participated in decisions which successfully carried the Party through some difficult financial and organizational challenges.
Now that our Leader Elizabeth May has been elected to Parliament, an incredible achievement for our Party and our Leader, we are facing unimagined opportunities to reach Canadians with our vision for a sustainable future and elect Green Party members in by-elections to join Elizabeth in greening Canadian politics.
If elected, I will work on Council to ensure that we support Elizabeth's work in Parliament and ensure we take advantage of the opportunities this affords to increase the awareness of and support for the Green Party.
I will work to ensure that our perspective from New Brunswick on national green politics is well represented on Federal Council and in particular am committed to building an understanding among councilors and the staff about the Acadian reality in Canada and in New Brunswick. This remains a blind spot in our national party and cannot continue. Witness the failure to run a candidate in Acadie-Bathurst in the last election.
With Elizabeth sitting in Parliament we have entered a new era of green politics in Canada and have turned a page in the history of the Green Party. This is tremendously exciting and I will work diligently to ensure that we build on this monumental achievement.
We are now living in a time of ecological breakdown and peak oil. The consequences for our communities, our families and our economy can no longer be ignored. Canada needs the dream and vision of a just and ecologically sustainable sustainable society which the Green Party offers. We are coming into our own, and Canadians will be looking to us for leadership. I hope you will consider voting for me as the New Brunswick representative to the Federal Council so that I can contribute to that leadership.
Thank You
