Democratic Reform - Réforme démocratique

The Green Party believes that our current electoral system, First Past the Post (or winner take all), has led to our current democratic deficit. Voter turnouts are at all time lows and many young Canadians feel disillusioned with politics. There are other problems associated with our current electoral system as well. It was designed at a time when Canada had only two major political parties, the Liberals and the Conservatives. In a multi-party system that Canada has, this system creates false majorities where it is entirely possible for a party to win an election with less than 40% of the votes. More >>
