Green Party statement on National Patriots’ Day

(OTTAWA) - Elizabeth May, Leader of the Green Party of Canada and MP (Saanich – Gulf Islands), issued the following statement on National Patriots’ Day:

“Today, we recognize les Patriotes’ struggle for liberty, democracy, and national recognition in Quebec.

“National Patriots’ Day celebrates a foundational aspect of our shared history; it is a chance to recognize some of the challenges we faced together to create a shared community.

“For all Canadians, Anglophone, Francophone, and First Nations alike, we are also reminded of the next steps we need to take in our journey towards building a stronger community together. On behalf of the Green Party and myself, I wish all Quebeckers a happy and safe weekend.”

Daniel Green, Deputy Leader of the Green Party of Canada and candidate (Ville-Marie–Le Sud-Ouest–Île-des-Sœurs), continued:

“National Patriots’ Day carries a special meaning for residents of Quebec. It is important to remember their struggle for democracy and freedom. It falls on all Quebec residents to preserve this legacy in the face of growing threats to our democracy and civil liberties.

“On behalf of the Green Party, I wish everyone an inspiring National Patriots’ Day.”
